FAQs

We have listed the most common questions and their answers below for your convenience...

What is involved in installing and setting up the screen?

Screen installation consists of either: (1) anchoring the three aluminum base plates to a concrete, wood or other suitable foundation or (2) wheeling out the portable bases. Anchoring the base plates either above ground or in-ground is a one-time process.

Setting up the screen before each showing with only 1 person is as easy as:

1. Sliding support sleeves over the base plates (less than 1 minute).
2. Inserting the telescoping poles into the support sleeves (approx. 1 minute).
3. Connecting the truss sections (approx. 5 minutes).
4. Mounting the truss to the telescoping poles and extending the telescoping poles (approx. 2 minutes).
5. Attaching the screen to the truss with the spring clips (approx. 3 minutes).
6. Hoisting the screen to the top (approx. 2 minutes).
7. Securing bottom of the screen to the base plates (approx. 1 minute). 8. Securing guide wires as required (approx. 5 minutes or less).

Of course, if you do happen to have 2 or more people, the process is even faster.

Where can I locate the screen?

Because there is no power required to operating the screen, the screen can be located on almost any level surface.  Because water will not harm the screen and its hardware, it may be located as close as desired to pools.

What happens if the screen gets dirty or wet?

The Splash Screen dries very quickly when wet, depending upon the outside temperature. Moderate dirt is not noticeable during a showing, typically. Stains may be spot-treated and the cinema screen is machine-washable in front-loading style washing machines.

How big are the outdoor movie screens?

Our standard outdoor movie screen is 18' x 24' and will accommodate full-screen and widescreen film formats, video game formats, home videos and computer inputs will a gigantic picture.  Custom sizes, both larger and smaller, can be special-ordered from NightSky Cinema.

What about wind?

NightSky's outdoor movie screen is designed for use in up to moderate wind conditions. Use in windy conditions is not recommended. The screen is designed with a quick-release feature which can be used to rapidly lower the screen should sudden high wind conditions occur during a movie.

Do I need more than one person to man the screen and projector?

No, the screen and projector are designed for set-up and take-down by one person.

What kinds of movies can I show?

Home venues are typically not subject to any additional licensing requirements. Commercial venues, however, usually are subject to special licensing requirements.  NightSky works with major film distributors to coordinate viewings for our clients.  We also offer complete party and film festival packages with posters and giveaways tied to your feature presentation. Contact your NightSky account manager for more information.

Can I show things other than movies?

Yes, any image that can be generated by a VCR, DVD or computer can be projected.  Our screens are being used for video karaoke, computer slideshow presentations, home and organization videos, and television events (i.e. sporting events).

Can I show movies before dark?

While the image is always optimal at dark, depending upon the projector and your location, images may be viewable before sunset.

What power do I need?

The screen requires no power.  All of the Cinema Boxcomponents are pre-wired into a master power source that requires only one plug-in to a standard, household 110V circuit.

What are my options regarding projectors?

Your NightSky sales representative will ask a few questions about the proposed placement of your projector and screen, your anticipated usage and will then recommend the best projector for your site.  One of the advantages of working with NightSky is that we custom-select the projector to meet your needs.  Generally, we are going to be using a high-grade projector for outdoor movies than you would use in a standard business application.
